WHO WE ARE
Black Talon Tactical's roots in manufacturing date back to 1988. While studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Minnesota, Dave Wiese, the founder of BTT, thought it would be a good idea to also get some hands-on experience in the real world. He started working at a tool and die shop and began writing programs and setting up their CNC equipment. In 1991, he started his own Wire EDM business right next door to that tool and die shop and remains there today.
Through the years, his EDM shop expanded into other manufacturing disciplines working with multiple Swiss machines, lathes, and 3 and 5 axis mills in the manufacturing of AR components such as gas keys, firing pins, and cam pins. He made parts for other firearms as well, including pistol barrels and other internal components.
In 2016 he was approached by a customer representing a major AR rifle manufacturer. He was asked, and began, to make the trigger, hammer, and disconnect for their drop in trigger design. This contract led him to make components for another drop in trigger manufacturer as well. Along the way, he realized that the pull force on these triggers, as well as most on the market, was not very accurate allowing for plus or minus 1/2 pound (8 OZ) of pull force or worse. Dave knew he could do better. He has developed, and is patenting, the tightly calibrated (plus or minus 1 ounce pull force) and accurately adjustable triggers you find here today.
WHAT WE DO
Black Talon Tactical designs, engineers, builds and sells innovative products for the AR platform as well as other modern rifle platforms such as the Sig Sauer MCX and the Springfield Hellion. Our current product offering consists of tightly calibrated (plus or minus 1 ounce) and accurately adjustable drop in triggers for the AR enthusiast, semi-stripped lowers (modified for our adjustable trigger), complete lowers (modified for our adjustable trigger) and complete premium firearms, but we’re not stopping there. We are currently developing other innovative products including a bonded magnesium barrel. Our design is up to 50% lighter than a steel barrel, has improved thermal wicking, better harmonics, and all at a reasonable price. Stay tuned!
